A quick note from our founder - and the vision that drives Elite Capital
Hello, and thanks for visiting our website. I’m Matthew Butler, founder and managing principal of Elite Capital. My journey in finance began in the early ’90s with Shearson Lehman Brothers, and for the past 23 years, I’ve focused exclusively on helping credit unions invest with purpose and clarity.
In 2007, I started Elite Capital to give credit unions something they’d long been denied: institutional investment management - without the products, commissions, or insurance wrappers. We built a firm rooted in transparency, regulatory alignment, and long-term performance. And today, that mission matters more than ever.
I’m proud to work alongside my sons and a talented team that shares my passion for helping credit unions thrive. When I’m not deep in portfolio design or regulatory code, you’ll probably find me on a dirt bike, behind a drum kit, or enjoying time with my family.

Client Concierge
Candace Arthur
As our Client Concierge, Candy Arthur is the first point of contact for the credit unions we serve. From account setup to regulatory filings, she keeps client operations running smoothly. She ensures Employee Benefits Cost Analyses are current, tracks CDA deposits and donations, maintains Elite’s books and records, and serves as our liaison with Charles Schwab.
Candy has been with Elite Capital since day one, bringing decades of industry experience and a calm, client-first approach. She previously worked at MassMutual supporting one of the firm’s top producers - where she and Matthew first crossed paths more than 30 years ago. Before joining Elite, she also supported operations for an independent RIA in Connecticut.
Candy is a proud mom to two grown children and “Mimi” to her grandchildren, Madison and Daniel. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, gardening, biking, and time with family.
Managing Partner
Nicholas Butler, CFA
Nicholas Butler is Managing Partner with Elite Capital. Nicholas graduated from Lafayette College in 2018, majoring in Math and Economics with a minor in Spanish. Nicholas worked at Virtus Investment Partners for 5+ years, spending a year on the sales desk before moving to product development and oversight. Here, he performed investment oversight primarily on U.S. growth and international equity portfolios as well as extensive portfolio analysis on Virtus offerings and competitors. Nicholas earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in April 2025.
Nicholas excelled at ultimate frisbee in high school and college, playing for nationally ranked teams in tournaments held across the country. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, camping, golf, and spending time with his wife, Monica, and puppy, Millie.
Portfolio Administrator
Fernando Arrue
As our Portfolio Administrator, Fernando (“Fred”) is the go-to resource for accounting personnel at the credit unions we serve. He manages service workflows, monitors our online accounting platform, and ensures clients can close their books quickly and accurately each month.
A journalism graduate of St. John’s University, Fernando’s path to finance included earlier studies in engineering and roles in logistics, hospitality, and government. In 2013, he became a financial advisor at Wells Fargo Advisors, earning his Series 7 and 66 licenses—but found his true calling not in growing the wealth of the already-wealthy, but in serving mission-driven clients. He joined Elite Capital in 2015 and brings a decade of experience and a deep commitment to helping credit unions better serve their members.
A native New Yorker now living in Connecticut, Fernando is a passionate foodie still exploring the age-old pizza debate of NY versus CT (New Haven). Results remain inconclusive, and additional research continues.
Securities Analyst & Marketing Consultant
Justin Butler
Justin Butler is a consultant with Elite Capital. Justin graduated from Providence College in 2022 with a B.S. in Finance and interned with Elite for two summers during his college career. At Providence College, Justin was part of the finance “fast-track” program where he gained valuable skills and experience in both securities markets and accounting,
vital areas of importance to Elite. Justin provides Elite with market insights, competitive intelligence, and commentary. He is a skilled writer and tactician.
Justin is currently employed with CVS Health as a Senior Analyst, graduating from their Financial Leadership Development Program (FLDP) in April 2025. As a member of the FLDP, Justin benefited from an outstanding opportunity to rotate through three different positions in finance over a three-year period.
Justin is an all-around great athlete and two-time all-state high school soccer player who enjoys golf, skiing, pickle-ball, and training at the gym. Justin is also a top-ranked PC gamer.
