Meet Matthew Butler – Founder of Elite Capital

Hello, and thank you so much for visiting our website. We appreciate you taking the time to get to know us!

My name is Matthew Butler, and I am the founder and managing principal of Elite Capital. From my humble beginnings as a stock broker with Shearson Lehman Brothers in the early 90's to my current role as principal of Elite, my career in finance has now spanned across three decades, with twenty-one of those years devoted to working exclusively with credit unions. Today, I am as passionate as ever about my work and in many ways, feel like I am just getting started.

I established Elite Capital Management Group in March 2007 to offer credit unions something they had sorely lacked - access to institutional money management without the "gotchas" that come with insurance-based products or the expenses that come with retail investments. We believe our goal of providing these services to credit unions is more important now than ever before.

While Elite Capital has grown to be one of the largest providers of non-insurance based §701.19C investment firms in the country, we've done so quietly, with nary a whisper of any marketing or advertising. That is changing. A fire has been lit because frankly, we've seen enough of the poor plan designs, inappropriate investments, and even fraudulent behavior that credit unions have been subjected to.

Today, a primary goal of ours is to disrupt the industry and educate the credit union community about the types of investment plans and services they have available to them. Institutional plans with institutional reporting and one-on-one service.

My passion and enthusiasm drives the engine at Elite Capital and shapes the personality, work ethic, and commitment of the entire firm. We are a vibrant, nimble, hyper-specialized investment advisor that can make clients feel as if they are the only institution we are working with. Working exclusively with credit unions and fostering close relationships with my clients continues to be a driving force behind my work, and I am committed to sharing my industry knowledge and insights to empower credit unions and help them maximize their growth.

Apart from my entrepreneurial role, I am also the proud father of three sons, two of whom work with Elite Capital as consultants, helping us further our mission to educate the credit union community. When I’m not working or spending time with my wife, Rose, and our boys, you’ll likely find me behind a drum set, playing guitar, jumping on a trampoline, hitting the dumbbells, riding a dirt bike, or playing pickle ball.

Thank you again for taking the time to get to know our story and team. If you’re looking to learn more about what we do and how we help credit unions, feel free to give us a call.

The Elite Team

Candace-Arthur-Elite-Capital
Client Concierge

Candace Arthur

Candace Arthur (Candy) is Elite Capital’s Client Concierge. In this role, Candy interacts with all levels of personnel at the credit unions we serve. Amongst many duties, Candy helps establish new accounts, maintains existing accounts, files regulatory documents, ensures Employee
Benefits Cost Analysis’ are up to date for each client, tracks deposits and donations made to and from CDAs, maintains Elite’s books and records, and acts as the liaison between our clients and our custodian, Charles Schwab, Inc.

Candy has been with Elite since we first opened our doors in 2007. Prior to that, Candy worked at MassMutual, where she supported one of the agency’s top producers for many years. Ironically, MassMutual is where Candy and Matthew first met, more than 30 years ago, during
Matthew’s college internship with the company. After leaving MassMutual, Candy provided back-office and client-facing support for an independent RIA in Connecticut until she joined Elite.

Candy is the proud Mom of two amazing children, Matthew and Kimberlee and “Mimi” to her two grandchildren, Madison and Daniel. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, reading, biking and being with family.

Fernando-Arrue-Elite-Capital
Portfolio Administrator

Fernando Arrue

Fernando Arrue is our Portfolio Administrator. Fernando (Fred)’s primary focus is working with the accounting personnel of the credit unions we serve. The investment industry is very much a found passion for Fernando, who graduated from St. John’s University in 2010 with a degree in journalism. Prior to that, he studied engineering, and during and after college, he worked in logistics, hospitality, government services, and more.

In 2013, Fernando became a financial advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors, passing the Series 7 and 66 exams. While with Wells, Fernando quickly came to appreciate the need for better access to high-quality financial advice. Working for a large bank and helping the already-
wealthy to grow their accounts was not the calling he sought, however, and in 2015, Fernando joined Elite Capital. He now has ten years of experience in financial services and is passionate about providing the highest levels of service to our credit union clients so they can, in turn, better serve their own members.

Fernando’s varied work history and ability to research and investigate issues makes him well-suited to managing the service experience for client accounting staff. His communication skills are exceptional. Fernando also maintains and monitors the online accounting platform that allows Elite’s clients to close their books in minutes each month-end.

Fernando is a native New Yorker living in Connecticut. A self-professed foodie, he has used the decade he’s lived in Connecticut to attempt to disprove the local belief that the pizza here is better than in New York. The results are still inconclusive and further testing is required.
